Dale Earnhardt was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina in 1951 and is the son of NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Richard Childress. He started racing karts at age nine and entered his first full-bodied race at age 12. Earnhardt won the NASCAR Rookie of the Year award in 1992 and captured his first Winston Cup Championship in 1995.
